Conical Strainers
Conical Strainers
Our Conical Strainers are designed to effectively remove solid contaminants such as scale, rust, weld slag, and foreign particles from fluid systems during commissioning, start-up, and operational service. While commonly used as temporary or start-up strainers, conical strainers are also supplied for permanent installation in selected applications where lightweight construction and ease of handling are preferred.
In marine, offshore, and shipping industry applications, conical strainers are often adopted as permanent strainers due to their reduced weight, compact form, and adequate filtration performance for specific service conditions. Their versatility makes them suitable for both short-term protection during system flushing as well as long-term use in continuous flow applications where operational efficiency and space constraints are key considerations.
Design and Construction
Conical strainers feature a tapered, cone-shaped screen design that provides a large open filtration area relative to their size, allowing contaminants to be trapped while maintaining acceptable flow characteristics. The conical geometry promotes even distribution of debris across the screen surface, reducing the likelihood of localised blockage and excessive pressure drop.
Depending on application requirements, conical strainers can be designed for insertion between flanges or for installation within piping systems. They can also be manufactured as per a patented or proprietary design provided by the client. The lightweight construction enables easy installation and removal, particularly in marine and offshore environments where handling convenience is critical. When specified for permanent service, conical strainers are engineered with reinforced screens and suitable materials to ensure durability and reliable performance over extended operating periods.
